Hello,

I have a Plustek A3I scanner that has no windows XP driver. I
configured my system for a dual boot arrangement, one partition windows 98se
and one partition windows xp. Unfortunately the scanner is malfunctioning. Is
there anything practical I can do with this old OS to justify keeping it? It
was a lot of work to get this far.

There are a few older programs which run better in win98, but unless you are
using them, and unless you need the old OS for some other reason, dump it

I have exactly the same setup--A Dual OS Booting System with Win98 & XP
Pro.

Well, I use XP 99% of the time, but like others I use 98 for older
programs that wont work correctly or just cant work in XP. Im sure glad
I did set up this way. I recently was malware infected on XP & it became
unbootable either normally or via safe mode! Thank my lucky stars for my
Win98! Very Happy I was still able to boot to it, & from there I cleaned the
infection & re-did what was necessary to get my XP to boot again!!!
*Would have been impossiable without the WIN98!!!*
I WILL NEVER EVER EVEN CONSIDER DROPPING IT
FOR ANY REASON!!!

Surprised If all i had was XP I would have been like a cork bobbin' in the
ocean with no land in sight!!!!! Surprised

I suggest, unless you cant afford the space on your HD, do not remove
it...Its harmless, but being there can save your bunns someday like it
did mine!!!! Cool

That's what the Repair/Recovery Console is for.

Exactly what did you end up doing in 98 to "clean the infection"?

If you managed to access your XP file system from within 98, then you're
running XP on FAT32...something I'd never do in a million years.
