My computer refuses to warn me when the battery is low, and shuts down
unexpectedly. I have it set up so it is supposed to warn me and make a
sound when the battery hits 10%, and then if it doen't get battery is
programmed to hibernate instead of shutting down. It did all this for a
while, but now will not do any of it. I've checked the settings and it
should be warning me/hibernating, but it will not. Any ideas of the cause/
how to fix?? >> Stay informed about: Will not warn when battery is low |

If your laptop battery is going bad (and they DO go bad) it will shut
down at almost any percentage of discharge. I had a laptop that would
tell you it was fully charged and then, after only 6 minutes and down to
95%) it would just completely quit.
Somewhere on your computer there should be an applet that will put a
small icon down in the notification area near the date/time. Hovering
the mouse, or double-clicking it should bring up a "progress bar" that
shows battery charge (or a tooltip with the current charge on it). If
you notice that the battery is not getting down to 10%, but shuts down
anyway, then it it probably time for a new battery.

The strange thing is, my battery seems to be fine. I do have the icon and it
goes through battery as it always did, but when it gets low it just shuts
off. It is still waiting to get low before doing this, but it won't warn me
or enter hibernation.

Hmmm. That is strange then. Have you investigated all the settings that
the battery applet offers? Did the alarms ever work? You might try
UNsetting the alarms, rebooting, and then REsetting the alarms. Other
than that I can offer no more advice.
