Is this a virus or is it something that should be on my computer?

Sygate Firewall keeps telling me it is blocked.

whssvc.exe

I have googled but cannot find any information - hope somebody
on PCBanter can help.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a tool called Process Explorer by SysInternal and it can be
downloaded from Microsoft site itself. Run that tool and see if there is any
process by the name of 'whssvc.exe ' running in ur system or not. If its
running then check the Company Name next to it. If its blank withut any
company name then we have to be very carefull. End Task this process and if
more than one instance is running then kill all the instances by right
clicking those instances. Secondly, open RegEdit and go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN and on the right panel
see if any entry is pointing to this file whssvc.exe. If yes, open command
prompt and go to that directory and type attrib whssvc.exe . if the
attributes are displayed as SHR then type 'del/ah/f whssvc.exe' and press
enter. reboot the system and see if the Sygate Firewall prompts further or
not.

Hi RajDeep
Thanks very much for that advice. Sorry I haven't replied sooner but in
the end I decided to do a complete
system reload and now, fingers crossed, no sign of 'whssvc.exe' and as
I am not an expert it took some time to
re-install all my programmes etc.
I shall keep that information as it may be useful some time Smile
