I use XP Pro at home. It is setup as a workgroup computer. I have an
admin account (mine), and created one other account, setup in Control
Panel > User Accounts. It is setup as a Limited User Account. On
this PC, I have partitioned it to have a C:, and E: drive. C: is
primarily Windows, and I install all other programsd on E: (that will
let me.). After creating the other limited account, it has no access
to E:, nor can it open any program residing on E: I then gave the
account the Group "Power User" in Computer Management > Users &
Groups. I aslo had files on E: that i now want to drop ion this users
"My Documents", and after doing so, cannot access them. Looking at
the permissions o nthe files, it looks as tho the user has Full Access
to them. One in particular is the PST for Outlook. Outklook will not
open since it was installed on E: before creating this account.
Given this, here are my questions -
1. Am I having issues because a have a separate partition? Both are
NTFS.
2. If I give the acccount the "Power Users" group, shouldn't I then be
able to run most programs, even if they do not reside on the OS
partition?
3. Should I disregard the Control Panel > User Accounts section and
only use the Computer Mgmt > users & Groups?
