no sound with new message

The preferences are all set. The sound worked before, all the sudden it's
just that sound that doesn't work. I have searched for the answer to this,
found nothing. Thanks

I also have a similar problem but none of my notification sounds play. When
I go to Tools, Options, Alerts & Sounds: all of the sounds have check marks
by them. When I use the arrow by the Browse button to sample the sound it
comes back with the error "Messenger is unable to play the selected sound".
I can go directly to the file location and play the sounds with my Media
Player but they won't play in Window Live Messenger. They are .wma files
listed to open with Windows Media Player.

Any help here would be great.

surpise, suprise........all the sudden it starts working again.........I
honestly cannot help you........mine are all wma files also. Good luck,
