Post subject: no sound device

hi, i had an unexpected crash on my pc which resulted in a loss of sound.
when i tried to play a music file i get the message " there is a problem with
your sound device or no sound device detected" i have been to windows
update for drivers but none available. i have nothing in sound devices in
device manager and yellow question marks next to audio and videeo
controllers. i have also installed drivers from my emachines. i ran belarc
but not sure what motherboard i have and there is nothing listed under
multimedia. i have an emachines e4036, hope someone can help!

forgot to add...tried disc that came with pc but get error message "no
hardware device found"

You lost the sound device. It is either broken, or has become disconnected
somehow. You might buy a sound card, but a new e-machine is not much more
expensive than that.
