Thank you Brian. I had already checked the dell Site using my service tag;
unfortunately it is not as helpful as it could be in that many of the
drivers don't seem to apply to my system. Even the original system
configuration is sparse in it's information.
With the help of the Dell support ng I've obtained all the drivers I need
except for Audio.
Dell say that I have an integrated SoundBlaster Card & I do have creative
programs running. However none of the creative drivers either from the Dell
site or creative's own site seem to install & the only driver I've managed
to install is Sigmatel one.
I have taken your advice & installed Belarc Advisor & it suggests that I
have SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, but is that because of the driver
I installed? The problem I have atm is that when windows starts I get an
error message that sttray.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry
point LocalizeString could not be located in the dynamic link library
STLang.dll. which Nepatsfan on this ng suggested that Sttray.exe is the
Sigmatel Audio system tray application. and that I could try reinstalling
the software that came with your sound card. If I have on-board audio. check
the CD that came with my motherboard or the manufacturer's web site for the
latest drivers.
That's my problem I don't actually know what card I've got & none of the
sofware I got from Dell seems to help. I do have a cd for the chipset
drivers but these have already been installed & I believe that I should
install the chipset software BEFORE any other.
