Post subject: Most services disabled
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>security_admin (more info?)

I have an HP laptop whose user has twice brought in with almost all services
disabled. This person is definately not capable of doing this themselves,
but the only services running are the Mcafee antivirus, DCOM Server Process
Launcher, and one other system service. EVERY other service is set to
'disabled'. The user reports that her laptop was not being used at the time
but has a problem 'connecting to the internet.' You can log in to the
machine either with a local account or using Active Directory cached
credentials, but thats about it. I have gone through the services and reset
to either manual or automatic as needed and rebooted; scanned with trend and
norton online virus scanners; run sfc /scannow but everything comes back as
'no problems found'. Any ideas?
