Is there a way to restrict or disable a device frmo the guest account?
I have a cd organizer and do not want to have the guest account have
access to the device. Any ideas? Thanks

First, you should not be using the Guest account. The Guest account you see
in Control Panel>User Accounts is not meant for when you are being
hospitable. It is a system account which allows a person without a user
account on the local system to sit down and do some work. It runs with
elevated privileges, which is why it is normally disabled.

Instead, create a new Limited user account and call it something clever
like "Visitor". Then you can restrict it as desired. If you have XP Pro,
you can set restrictions using the Group Policy Editor.

Start>Run>gpedit.msc [enter]

Be careful using the Group Policy editor as it is completely possible to
lock yourself out. Questions about using Group Policy should be posted in
its newsgroup - microsoft.public.windows.group_policy.

If you have XP Home, you can permissions and restrictions with either MVP
Doug Knox's Security Console or the MS Shared Computer Toolkit. Questions
about using the Shared Computer Toolkit should be posted in its newsgroup -
microsoft.public.windows.sharedaccess.

Thanks, the Knox utility looks good. I couldn't tell from his site if
the media Center XP will work with his utility. There doesn't seem to
be a contact email for him on the site. I know the microsoft one won't.
If I'd known that I would have got regular XP home.

Just to add to my previous post - Media Center Edition is XP Pro with media
stuff added. So you can always use the Group Policy editor if Doug's
utility doesn't work with MCE.
