My machine automatically downloaded IE 7 which corrupted my computer and it
looks like the only think I can do is re load XP. Can someone tell me where
the Outlook and addressbook files are stored? I cannot fine any pst or wab
files.

I am dreading this but I am told it is the only way

Get Outlook Express BackUp. It'll backup and restore all your addresses and
news groups with just a few clicks of the mouse.

The download is in the red banner.

Who told you it was the only way?
Have you tried removing IE7. Go to Start>Settings >Control Panel> add and
Remove Programs. Your machine will revert back to IE6.

If you explain the problems you are having it's quite likely it can be
fixed without reloading windows.

I sure hope I can avoid reloading XP. The main symptoms of the problem are
that Windows is very slow. Windows explorer is unprecictable and when a
large folder is accessed the machine freezes, Outlook will only download new
messages part of the time and when printing a message a script error pops
up. The message is "an error has occured in the script on this page. Line
1344. It is an unspecified error"

I uninstalled OE7 but it did not fix the prob. I tried to use system
restore to a week earlier but that did not fix it. when I tried to back
further I found that all my restore points had been erased.

I tried using the Microsoft help chat but their advise caused my machine to
crash midway so I lost the link. I tried again and got some goof that told
me to buy a new windows XP program and reload it.

Would you have any thoughts that may help?

What makes you think/state your PC is corrupted?
OL data is stored in *.pst file(s) these are hidden files, so search to
include hidden

I assume that by "Outlook" you mean Outlook Express.

For your printing problem go to Start | Run and type
regsvr32 ole32.dll
and press <Enter>.

I don't know what Microsoft Help Chat is.

SYSTEM RESTORE is your friend.
You can restore to an earlier date.
Worth a shot.

Make sure you choose 'to receive notification when updates are available'
and 'pick a time to install updates', in WU Home page.
It is not a good idea to just let MS stick anything they like into your
computer.
The below is perhaps a good place to post if you continue to have IE7
generated problems.

Please note - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx

IE7 questions should be posted to the Internet Explorer General newsgroup as
below -

In your Newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you need to use the Web Interface -
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=...rosoft.

While reinstalling XP might not be "the only way" to get your system working
efficiently again it might well be the quickest way. A typical reinstall of
XP takes about 45-60 minutes. However reinstalling apps and settings and
adding back your backup data can take considerably longer. A reinstall
including a large number of apps that I use and tweaking my settings usually
takes me around 4 hours. On the other hand trying to ferret out my problems
and resolve them can take days of searching for answers.

If you want to backup your addressbook and e-mail try one of the options
from here

Thsnks to everyone in my time of need. In the end I went ahead and reloaded
XP. I was able to use a program that backed up the address book and
outlook's messages.

When I inserted the XP disc I was given the option of new install or an
update. I chose the update even though I already had XP and wonder of all
wonders. It reinstalled XP without deleting my current stuff or even the MS
updates. Everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks again.
