It's not a registry setting.
you need to turn off the speakers
or unplug them and hide them

Do Start-Control panel-Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Audio Tab under
Sound Playback click on Advanced, and using the dropdown box at the bottom
of the Speakers tab, select Headphones.
I don't know whether there is any way of ensuring that he can't change that
back, short of actually physically disconnecting the speakers....

Assert some authority instead of looking for a technical trick to
compensate for your lack of a spine. I know that sounds a bit harsh,
but I'm being completely serious.

I think your advice just sets the output to better output for headphones,
rather than meaning you can only use headphones.

Some mobos automatically disable rear output when headphones are plugged in
to the headphone connector.

Of course there is nothing stopping him from plugging in some speakers to
the headphone socket. Won't sound great though.

In this case it might be better just to turn off the speakers/stereo or
unplug them.

Maybe get him an iPod?

Unplug and hide the speakers.

well, I see, I should have mentioned the speakers are built-in the
planar screen anyway
~
and by the way I spare "my spine" for other things. This is my way to
just remind him to use the headphones even if I am not at home
~
Thanks

Would have helped...
I don't know what percentage of home users would use monitors with built in
speakers.

Maybe there is some software that came with the monitor, or a switch on the
monitor itself
If you check the settings on the monitor itself, (screen adjustment settings
etc.), there may be an option there to disable the speakers.

Do the speakers have a seperate cable/s, or does the signal travel down the
video cable?

I know it's not practical or desirable to march your way into your kids room
and scream instructions at them, (I certainly wouldn't recommend it), but
maybe if you purchesed wireless heaphones, (not infra red), so he can move
away from the PC and still hear the muzak?

Play some Deano loud till he complains Wink
(don't forget to sing along!)
