Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

When trying to use the factory supplied recovery cd for a Toshiba Satellite
Pro 6100 laptop, I receive the error message that the cd is not for the
satellite 6100 but instead is for the satellite 6100 and cannot be run on a
satellite 6100. Please insert the 6100 recovery disk. Like I said, the
laptop is a 6100 and the disks came with the laptop. Bought the laptop
directly from Toshiba. Any ideas?
winxp sp2

Technical answers OK
Thanx in advance for any guidence in working around this issue.

Did you multipost this?

Unfortunately for you, your support for this media is Toshiba. No one else
can help you. They created this recovery system. It has nothing to do with
the Operating System. It was their way of saving money and still being in
compliance with the agreement they had with Microsoft.

Actually, I thought that there was a possibility of the machine ID being
corrupt and that I may be able to possibly change it. I got as much from
several error messages I recieved while trying to work around this myself.
Unfortunately I've only been able to reproduce the error message while in
Safe Mode and it states that the machine ID can't be changed in safe mode.
If i'm getting a message claiming an incorrect or corrupt machine ID it
sure seems to me that it would be coming from the OS.
Yes, I've posted this to several groups.

In the future - if you feel it is relevant to many groups - crosspost as
opposed to multiposting.
http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm

You did not mention anything about the other (resulting from attempts to
fix) problem in any of your multiposts. Can you post the actual text of the
error messages here?

Have you contacted Toshiba or went to their online technical support forums
(if they exist) to look for this issue and work-arounds there?

Are you saying the machine boots in safe mode?!
