I have initiated a password protected screensaver on a Win XP SP2 machine
that fails to protect much of the time--it will return to the desktop if you
press a key. The only reference I can find is an issue with SP1. The
registry reads correctly (1) in the Control Panel/desktop. Any advice?
thanks for any help

There is a period of time (I think the default is 5 seconds - although I
have increased that to 30 seconds on some laptops...) where the screensaver
lock is not 'in effect'. Once that time has passed - then the lock is
active.

If you wait more than 30 seconds (let the screensaver run) - does it work
every time?

You can use TweakUI to control that (or edit the registry value, etc.)
