My father passed away and I have received his computer. It is a Compaq
Presario 1255 notebook with Windows 2000 Professional. I am trying to sign
in but do not have his password. Is there a way to by pass that and get in?

I am assuming that you mean a Windows password, not a BIOS password. If
simply typing "Administrator" and leaving the password blank doesn't
help, then use NTpasswd to change the built-in Administrator account's
password to a blank. Once in, go to Administrative Tools>Computer
Management>Local Users and Groups (I may be misremembering the exact
path and I don't have Win2k on any of my machines any more but it will
be obvious to you) and change the password to something you will remember.
