What's a good software to tweak my mouse's poll rate?

Hello.

What is a good software to change my mouse's poll rate in an old,
updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine? I Googled and found one, but it was
from 2005, doesn't seem to support SP3, and requires patching a file
(sounds dangerous?).
