Hi! Today when I signed on to my computer, there was an icon on my taskbar
(a red circle with a white X in it), and the balloon said "Your computer is
infected! Windows has detected spyware infection! It is recommended that you
use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now
download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you. Click here to
protect your computer from spyware!"
So I clicked it, and something came up offering to do a scan of my computer.
So I ran the scan, and it came up showing like 160 files infected. So then
it said to click to Remove Infected Files, and when I clicked that, it said
it couldn't do that in the "trial" version - that I had to pay like $40 for
their program. So then I figured the whole thing (including the error
message on my taskbar) was just some ad or scam, so I exited out of the scan.
But the message keeps popping up and the red circle with the X won't leave
my taskbar. It pops up like every 15 seconds!! It's driving me crazy! I
went to Remove Programs, and removed the scan program. But that did not
remove the X and the annoying pop-up message. Now, even when I click into
the balloon to supposedly "protect my computer from spyware", it won't even
go to the scanning program anymore because I removed it!
PLEASE help me - how do I make this stop popping up on my computer????? >> Stay informed about: computer is infected message |

Julie,
In the future - if you feel it is relevant to many groups - crosspost as
opposed to multiposting.

See my advice in your other posting...
Someone may come to you with more specific instrrictions to get rid of what
may be a smitfraud or related infestation - which is good.... But you should
probably do my suggestions as well - because if you have one thing - you
likely have 20 others.
