Post subject: Xbox Extender and Vista Media Center RC1 has stopped working Jan 1

I have been happily using my 360 as an extender to a Vista RC1 Media Center
for a couple of months now. As of today my 360 cannot complete a connection
to the media center. It sits on the "connecting" screen, but never actually
manages to display the media center screen. The 360 cannot access the shared
media through the regular non-media center methods either. I am just
suspicious that this has happened on Jan 1. Is it possibly a timeout in RC1
or something? I plan on purchasing Vista asap but it's not available yet.
Everything has been rebooted multiple times, xbox, router and media center. |

lif you read further down the newsgroup you will see my note l early AM
logged on the same subject. Bottom line is RC1 MCE connection to xbox360 and
tv tuners were disabled after midnight 12/31. There is no patch being
released. Don Knox - MS MVP replied to my note with this input. You, like all
of us will have to wait for the retail release at the end of the month ?

Yeah thanks MS. I figured out I can turn back the clock and that lets me
connect my extender...

Same thing happened to me. Since we all need to install the retail version,
will it let us install it (the cheaper upgrade from xp) over the RC1, or do
we need to install xp again?
I know this is off topic so if anyone has a link to this answer that would
be great. Thanks.

I can't say for certain, but I'd be willing to bet the "upgrade" version
will require you to reinstall XP first...
