Each time shut down windows 16 automatic updates install which takes a long
time.

I do not know if they have installed correctly or not.

I have tried the solutions in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 but
this did not help.

Paul,

Go to Start > Run > type in or copy&paste the below into the Open: line
and then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the now open WindowsUpdate.log
Copy and paste the last 50 or so lines of the log into your reply, please.

What is the installed antivirus/security suite/anti-malware software/and
which firewall is being used ?
