Post subject: Windows XP cannot boot - c:windowssystem32configsystem Get Alert
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>perform_maintain (more info?)

Hi,

I've seen a few threads on this subject, and have tried all the suggestions,
but have come to a grinding halt in repairing my computer.

The steps that had seemed to work were on the following support page:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us

I get as far as:

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

and this is where I encounter my problem - I get a message that says:

The system cannot find the file specified.

Any recommendations as to how to get past this point?

While I'm pretty decent at following basic directions, I'm certainly no
rocket scientist when it comes to PCs. Is this going to be something I can
do on my own, or should I just contact a support person to fix this problem?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
