After downloading Windows Update I have not been able to open Internet
Explorer. Like it is frozen in time. Says it is "Connecting..." but nothing
EVER happens. Can't get out of page on screen unless I turn the computer off
with the button. Can send e-mails via Outlook but can't get on the internet.
Any ideas? thanks

Further to my earlier post there was a definitions update for Windows
Defender on 3 January 2007.

Do you still have a beta version of Microsoft Anti-Spyware or Windows
Defender still installed? Beta versions were supposed to have expired
on 31 December 2006.

Hope this helps.

Please post copies of any Warnings / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs in Event Viewer from a single session. Disregard
Information Reports.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

What updates did you download? Select, Start, Help and Support, Keep
your Windows up- to-date with Windows Update, Review your Update
History.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did have to uninstall the Windows Defender
that I was having problems with and reinstall the newer version. I finally
had to contact Microsoft to get my problem cleared up with Internet Explorer.
My settings had been changed by the update.
