I have a Canon Elura 70, that I am trying to dowdload movies to my harddrive,
but each time I open the Windows Movie Maker program the computer locks up
and stops responding, I am using XP Pro, anyone have any ideas as to what the
problem may be, I also tried to use Nero Vision and that program stop
responding also.

That is a mini DV cam which connects via firewire.
So assumed that when you connect the cam, an icon
appears in system tray and correctly identifies the Canon
as a DV cam connected via firewire?
Your problem could be that you are connecting via USB
USB is only for transferring still images from the Canon to
a PC. You cannot transfer DV footage via USB.
If you are connecting via USB there is a conflict and capture
software can't capture via USB anyway.
Post details of exactly how you connect?
Is the Canon correctly identified in explorer/My Computer?
Do you have any other devices connected via firewire - HDD?
If it is connected via firewire, and it is correctly identified,
detail exactly at what point your PC locks up.

Yes, I am connected by way of a Firewire connection and that is the only
Firewire connection that I use. The computer stops when, either I click on
"Capture from video device" when the camera is in on and in the play position
or if I do not turn the camera on until after MM starts, it locks up the
moment I do turn the camera on.
