Bingo! there it is. Will I have to do this every time I want to use it, or
is there a way to set a shortcut?

Paste this in the location box...
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
Click the Next button.
Paste this in the Name box...
Windows Media Player
Click the Finish button
Or...
Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...
%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player
Right click: wmplayer.exe, point to Send To and click Desktop (create
shortcut)
Then rename the wmplayer.exe shortcut on your Desktop to Windows Media
Player or whatever you want to name it.

Thanks--- that worked. I tried locating an appropriate .exe file before, but
it wasn't (and still isn't) there. I looked under C > Program Files, and
while there are a number of .exe files, that one, or not even one like it,
is there. But the copy paste worked, so I am at a loss to know why.

is the old 6.4 version and it still works.

I do not remember what off of the top of my head, but it's supposed to have
some advantages over WMP 8, 9, 10 and probably 11.

I still can't figure out where the solution you all gave me came from
(although it works!) In my Program Files>Windows Media Player, as I said
below, that wmplayer.exe file does not exist. Is there another spot it could
be, that would be executed on the command you gave me?

Does WMP open if you paste the following line into Start | Run and click
OK...
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
If it does and you cannot see wmplayer.exe in C:\Program Files\Windows Media
Player, maybe wmplayer.exe has the Hidden attribute set.
Depending on what version of wmplayer.exe you are using, there will be
*many* other wmplayer.exe files on your machine. The wmplayer.exe in
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player is the one that gets used.
See this, follow the instructions and do a Search for wmplayer.exe...
HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302347
When Search is done, right click the one found in C:\Program Files\Windows
Media Player and select Properties. On the General tab, make sure that
Hidden is UNChecked.
Hidden specifies whether the file or folder is hidden, which means that you
cannot see or use it unless you know its name. So if wmplayer.exe was set
to Hidden any of the methods mentioned in this thread would've worked to run
it.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
