I've just found a folder C:\Windows\WinSxS. It has only just been created.
Any ideas what this is for please?

Thanks.

I expect that you are using Win7 or Vista and NOT XP - and this group is
for Windows XP New Users - like the address of the group says!

However, as far as I know, the WinSxS folder is a normal and essential part
of the operating system on Vista / Win7 machines and removed, Windows will
no longer function. So leave it alone.

I found this in 30 seconds by googling it - you should try it some time.

Replying to a reply that was replying to a post from 2007? You're an idiot.

I do apologize for my lst post, the WinSxS folder IS part of WinXP after
all, it was just that when researching online, the information I was
reading applied to Win7 / Vista.

But the warning still applies - The WinSxS folder (Side-by-Side Assemblies)
holds vital information relating various binaries to various internal
components, and under *no* circumstances should it be modifies or deleted.

Not as big an idiot as the guy that I replied to.

But if someone does happen to reply to a very old post (not good practice),
then the damage has been done and I then see it as legitimate to respond to
the responder.....

......as you seem to be doing.

Any new posts will be searchable in Google after a time, and anyone wanting
information on the topic will pick up on any replies.

So, in the end, even if such accidents happen, it's not all in vein.
