I have dual boot Dell Deminsion 4550 PC With Xp Pro on one half and Vista
Ultimate on the other. I have sound with vista itself, no problem there but
when I go into media center the sound dissapears. I can play DVD MPs DIVX
files and they work but with no sound. This problem has only just happened
and it worked fine a little while ago. If anyone has any ideas it would be
appreciated.

Sounds like media center is muted, if you have a media center remote press
the mute button.

Try the F8 key, it's the keyboard shortcut for mute in Media Center.

Hmm.. Try running through the audio setup, it's in the tv area I believe
(not at a vista machine with mce to check for sure), it may be outputting
to a different output on your soundcard.

Did the audio setup again and reinstalled the drivers for the sound card
still having the same issue. It looks like a reinstall of vista doesn't it.

Skzip,

Go down to your Speaker icon on your task bar, click on it and then select
Mixer and turn the MCE volume control up, it might be all the way down now.
Hope that helps.

I have a very similar problem to the above.

Sound won't work when watching TV / Recorded TV / DVD in WMC, but Music,
home videos and rather annoyingly the audio on the set up video in WMC does.

TV and DVD sound works fine on other applications outside of WMC eg Windows
Media Player and Pinnacle TV pro.

Tried to follow the advice above, but I am running Vista and when I click on
the sound icon in the bottom right corner there isn't a MCE option, just
"Windows Sounds" and "Realtek", needless to say all set to max.

I have treid just about every setting there is in the Realteck settings (in
control panel) with out success.

Any advice much appreciated.

Sound plays outside of WMC

Ok ok ok. I see what I have done.

I didn't have wmc running when I opened up the sound mixer.

Forgive me cluttering up up this message board.

Actually, by telling us what the problem in your first post was, you
are being helpful, so no apology needed.

Besides, if you look around at some of the posts on Usenet, you can see
that your offense was not really an offense.
