I am using a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1600 and Vista's Media Center refuses to
see it.
When I attempt to "set up tv" from within Windows Media Center I get this
message:
"Tuner not found. The TV signal cannot be configured because no tuner
hardware was detected. Please ensure your hardware is correctly installed.
If you do not have tuner hardware you may purchase a tuner online from
Windows Marketplace."
Device Manager does show the card as installed and working properly.
when I exit Windows Media Center I have this message:
"Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working and was closed. To
help protect your computer, Date Execution Protection has closed Windows
Media Center Receiver Service."
I attempted to add WMCRS to the exceptions to DEP, but it is required.
Here is the info from the event log:
"Faulting application ehRecvr.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp
0x4549b54f, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00ae321f, process id 0x1660,
application start time 0x01c73ebb4b5fd1b4."
When I use the WinTV software it never appears to detect a signal but it
does not complain about no tuner being installed.
Any suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help?

What release of Vista are you using?
Have you installed any MC compatigble MPEG2 Decoder package to use instead
of the one that is included in Vista?

I have this exact same issue. The ehrecvr.exe process keeps crashing
every single time I launch Media Center and attempt to "Set Up Tv".
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS Gen5 with a Pinnacle
PCTV 110i Capture Card. I've also tried with a Angel Dual TV Tuner
with the exact same crash. Is there a hotfix for this crash? It is
one thing to update drivers, but when it crashes the same with
multiple tuner cards it doesn't look to be a tuner driver issue.
My Vista install is an upgrade. Could there be an issue with
something that was installed under Windows XP MCE 2005? I remember
back when MCE 2005 Rollup 2 when out people had similiar issues and it
had something to do with .Net Framworks.
Any help would be most appreciated. >> Stay informed about: Vista Media Center Can't Find my tuner. |

What Media Center compatible MPEG2 decoder software do you have intstaled
and set to as the Preferred decoder to use? You can check using the MS
utility from the following link:

I experienced the same problem and found out that after re-installing the
Vista Codec Package, Media Center worked again. So apparently in my case it
was indeed an incompatible decoder package.

Hi TVtester - I'm having the same problem - where do I get the Visa Codec
Package from? Do you have a link at MS?
