Have recently purchased a USB Turntable and found that when copying old
vinyl records there is no sound from my PC speakers.
The turntable plugs directly to a USB port.
I understand that this occurs because, due to a driver problem, the
turntable switches the system's sound playback device away from the sound
device to the turntable. Does anyone have a solution, please?
Would be most beneficial to be able to hear what is being copied and be able
to detect badly damaged tracks and repetition of over and over again when
the stylus gets caught in a minute crack.

You should find in Control Panel, sounds and audio devices, Audio tab, that
there are separate settings for recording and playback devices. Make sure
that the playback is directed to the sound card, not the USB turntable.
If the USB turntable has a driver problem that prevents this, contact the
manufacturer for an updated version or advice; the problem would be with
their code, not Windows. If they can't fix it, send it back.
You can't do this with the USB turntable, but what I do is plug my turntable
(or mics or guitar rack gear) into a mixer, which I then plug into an audio
interface. Speakers are also connected to the interface. As it happens,
I mostly have M-Audio interfaces; their drivers tend to be very stable.
This arrangement is very flexible and gives good results.

You cannot"play"sound from records on a usb deck via a soundcard.
It HAS to be USB Audio device that you set default playback to.

I wish someone had told me that - I've been doing it for over a year. >> Stay informed about: USB Turntables |
