This Dell WinXP PC is ultra slow.
32-bit SCANDISK reports "Windows was unable to complete the task"
DOS CHKDSK fixes 2 corrupt attribute records
but then "cannot continue in read-only mode."
SMART drive tests passed OK.

I would bet some system files are corrupted -- but do
not know what to do next, if SCANDISK will not complete.
[ I do have restore points since Dec. 31.]

One reason why the computer may be so slow is the amount of junk
that Dell has started up in the computer. Open Task Manager and
see just what is running. Shut down unnecessary applications and
services. Remove them from start up.

Also, just how much RAM is installed in this computer? According
to Dell's minimum specs for making the sale or something more
reasonable, such as 2 GB?

As for completing Scandisk or Chkdsk, it is best to run them with
no other applications running, even with a properly spec'd out
system.
