Several XP machines here have begun to get cranky shutting down. They
almost never just do it on the first attempt. I have to start Shutdown
again a time or two. Then, they sometimes make it all the way through
shutdown, other times they get partway through and hang - I've left them
in that state for hours and they never finish and turn off power. I
think this began after I installed SP3, but I'm not sure. There have
been a number of MS updates since then. Does anyone else see this?

If this is a persistent problem you could ask for SP3 (free) help from MS
support.

Thanks, Allan - that hadn't even occurred to me, given MS' usual
attitude about such things, but I guess SP3 is new enough that even
Redmond supports it... Smile
