I recently purchased a DVD Writer and found it to be a SATA drive. I
purchased a SATA RAID 2 port PCI host card and installed in the computer.
The problem I have, is that the computer will not boot up when the DVD drive
is connected. It says disk boot failure. If I unplug the DVD Writer, the OS
(XP Pro SP2) starts up normally. The BIOS is configured to boot from the C
drive only. Any suggestions as to what the issue may be.

Then chnage the BIOS to boot from a different device; like an add-in card.

It does not matter what I change the boot device to in the BIOS. It still
wont boot unless the DVD Drive is unplugged. It should boot when det to C:
ONLY. But for grins, I tried ALL options. Any more suggestions anyone?

How is the SATA raid configured? If not setup with correct SATA drivers and
configured correctly it can give the problem you describe. Mine are setup in
SATA Raid config as "striped" for individual drives for both and are
correctly recognized and in correct order in bios
