Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>perform_maintain (more info?)

I installed WMP 11 and it really messed up my computer. It freezes up and
does all kind of stupid things. Task bar will hang in the down position. I
tried to roll back to previous WMP but it will not let me. How can I get 11
of my computer? I tried to reinstall WMP 10 and it said not compatible with
windows on my system. Win XP Pro/SP2.
Is it possible to reinstall or repair windows from my factory disc? I put
the disc in and tried to open windows but it said the version on my computer
was newer than the one on the disc. Is this due to me adding SP/2 after I
bought the computer? If so can I remove SP/2 and reinstall Windows? I really
don't want to do a complete restore if I can help it. Way to many programs
and items to restore for that.

Yes I did and tried to roll it back to the earlier version. When I did that I
have no player at all. Then I tried to install version 10 and it will not let
me. I looked in the program files and it still shows WMP11 but it will not
open or let me delete it.
