Hello all,
I have an alienware media centre pc with XP SP2 and just of late I am not
able to play games on it as I was before. I haven't play any games on the pc
in over a week and in between this I had completed XP updates to which there
were 13. I update regularly BTW. Every time I insert the Game CD the
machine starts the game with the relevant main menu. Then after clicking on
play etc the PC gives me the blue screen of death (as I call it) and reboots.
This action does not happen with any other software e.g Office runs
perfectly.
Urgent help required as my son is also bugging me to play his games and can't.
Regards

First off, you need the STOP error code. You can either disable the
automatic reboots (by going into the System control panel, the
advanced tab, and startup recovery, or by using F8 during bootup), or
check the Event Viewer.
The parameters for the code might not be as helpful, but be sure to
note any device filenames that appear.

You might also want to see if lowering the hardware accelleration will
help. >> Stay informed about: Problem playing games on PC |

Hi Richie,
If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

Hi there,
I installed a simulation game last night and went to play it and after about
30 seconds into the game I got the BSOD and reboot. I then went to the event

Hi Richie,
Hardware issues can cause freezing, black screens and other
errors. Also, your drivers should always be kept up to date.
Try the following steps one at a time to try and resolve the issue.
I hope this helps. Please post back if you have any questions!
1. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://NibblesNbitsVideo.tk
2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Motherboard Monitor Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com
3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)
4. Test your RAM using: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Yes I pressed F8 and went in to VGA mode and rolled forward back to where I
was earlier and now I am back to the BSOD when I run a game etc. The error
report says it would include these 2 files as part of the report:
C:\DOCUME~1\YOURUS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa2e9.dir00\Mini022007-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\YOURUS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa2e9.dir00\sysdata.xml
The actual error also has the following:
KernelFaultCheck error.
So if he rollback ain't going to fix what next ?
