I captured some videos with Nero 7 which does so only in mp4 format. But WMP
11 does not recognize the file format as a Media file. I thought Microsoft's
wmv format itself was mpeg-4 and WMP 11 plays wmv files. Is mp4 different
from wmv format?

But if I ask WMP to open all the files in the folder, it opens the mp4 file
and even plays it. So why does WMP not recognize it as a Media File right
in the beginning?

Right click one of your video file, from the menu, select Open With > Choose
Program.

Choose Windows Media Player

Once you make your selection, be sure to check the box that says- "Always
use the selected program to open this kind of file".

You can also right click a video and choose Properties > Change Button,
choose Wndows Media Player and click OK > Apply > OK.

When you double click MP4 files WMPwill open and play.
