I have a 600 gig hard drive running windows xp sp2 and windows 2003 server.
I also have one recover partition which is marked primary. I have 4 logical
partitions. It seems I can not make any more partitions and I have close to
300 gig not being used. This set up is 2 1/2 years old and I would lose a
lot to delete any partition except for the recovery partition.

What should I do.

Thank you
Dee

Dee

Create extended partitions. Have a look at BootIt Next Generation.

I have looked at it before, but I am afraid the partions I already have will
be distroyed. Also is there a purchase price for this.

Thanks

Did you look thoroughly?
They would have a purchase price on their web page.
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/purchase.html

Why will the partitions you already have be destroyed?

Essentially - what you have done is created the four partitions you can on
the physical drive and did not use up all the space. You need to use some
third party application like Partition Magic or BootItNG to modify the
partitions and expand them. You will want to look at a specific example
from the page you were given ealier and do some reading. You get 30 days to
try out BootItNG...

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/videos/bing/resizing.wmv

And since you seem worried about losing data - you likely want to buy
BootItNG (or some other imaging utility - or find a free one) and some
external hard drive of equal/greater size of your current data (not all
space - USED space) and make a backup of your current configuration (make a
full disk image.) If things go wrong - you restore.

You have Windows 2003, Windows XP and a recovery partition...
What's the fourth partition?

What - exactly - are you trying to expand and why?

What sizes are EACH of the partitions now?

I do not have a fouth primary partion. Maybe I should delete the recovery
partition. I needed a few more partitions because I develop web sites I
made most of them 40 Gigs. Maybe I should make make the other larger after
deleting the recovery partion. What do you think.

Thank you

I think you need to rethink.

- You develop web sites - that equates in NO WAY to needing more partitions.
- You said originally that you had four partitions... "I have 4 logical
partitions."
- Why would you make the partitions 40GB each (approx.) on a "600GB drive"?
- Why not just use the tool you have been told about and expand the size of
the partitions in question to use up the rest of the space on the hard disk
drive?
- Why would you need to delete the recovery partition? That may be your
only method of restoring that machine to it's "as purchased" state.
- What *have* you tried? In other words - how have you tried creating the
new partition(s)? Disk manager?

I work for several companies. I like to keep each one's web sites separtely.
I also do project management for a company and just got two more companies
to work for.

I have all applications I used on one partion. 2 for web sites and 1 for
the company I do project management for, plus the recovery partition.

If I delete it I was going to make it larger and create a large directory to
put the recovery files in. I would then back up my sustem again there. I
don't even remember make it a primary partition.

When I go into disk management and click on the unallocated partition I only
get the opption to view the properties.

Thanks
Dee

You make whole partitions instead of just using directories...?

In any case- please take a screenshot of your disk management
(full-screened) and post it someplace like Picasa:
http://picasa.google.com/

And come back and let us know where it is so we can look.

Also - a screenshot of you right-clicking on the unallocated disk space...

that company. I haave two more companies that I will be working for soon.

I could not do a screen shot,.

Thanks

A modest investment in BootIt Next Generation will solve all your
