A client requested file downloads be disabled on their user PCs. Prior to
Acrobat Reader v7 they could open PDF files even if the security setting for
IE did not allow file downloads. Apparently v7 and v8 download the file
first, so anyone who has Downloads disabled gets a warning that their
security setting do not allow that file to be downloaded.

Is there a way to allow ONLY pdf documenmts to be downloaded? Any group
policy settings?

Many thanks in advance.

Not sure about the policy part, but you could use an alternate PDF reader
such as Foxit:

I can't think of any way to do that within IE as it is an all or nothing
setting. An advanced firewall such as ISA 2004/2006 can use advanced http
filtering to block many types of downloads at the firewall itself.
