Post subject: PDEngine timeout trying to connect to RPC
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

A couple of weeks ago Perfectdisk stopped working for me...in that it
fails to connect to my computer and show any drives. I've tried
uninstall (even search through the reg for raxco and pd.... files),
removed Raxco directories.

Checked their website for trouble shooting. It does mention RPC (it's
started...what else?!?) and DCOM security policies. I looked at the
policies but all I could see were applications that are installed
(i.e. at this point PD is failing to complete installation as the
PDEngine/PDScheduler services won't start).

I suspect it's a permissions/security issue with RPC or DCOM. Tried
changing RPC to Local Account (didn't check the Desktop option
though), disabled windows firewall.

Any ideas?

P.S. I even tried the latest PD ver 8 download but it fails at the
same point.

Have you contacted Raxco Tech Support?

Well, I didn't mean it that way, lol. Nowadays since software doesn't come
with manuals it's more like RTFHF (Help Files). Actually quite a few
questions asked here could be answered by using XP's built in Help and
Support.

If I knew the resolution I certainly would have told you. Their tech
support is good and responsive, AFAIK. It is always a good idea to check
with the program vendor's tech support for help with their product.
Pursuing both avenues, there and here at the same time is fine, but I would
not ask here without checking with them as well.
