My PC lost its video, the monitor shows nothing at all, but the PC seems
running normally, since I can not see the screen, I am not 100% sure,
but all the signs show normal.

The monitor is checked ok with another PC, and the video card in the
problematic PC is switched, same result.

I have built PCs for years, this is the first time that I encounter such
a strange problem. Gurus, help please.

The PC is 4 years old XP.

It's weird as I too have been building machines for a long time
and recently had the same experience...in that the machine I was working
on posted OK (it beeped) but there was no video even after swapping
video cards.

It turned out to be a bios that was in an illogical state.

I solved the problem by resetting the bios and hopefully it will work for
you too.

Normally all you need do is move the cmos reset jumper over then put it
back.

In my case...I don't know why...but it did not work.
Because I had nothing to loose in trying...I pulled the video card
and put in an ISA video card and then I finally had video and set the bios
back to default. After that i put back the original video card and all is
well.

Does your computer also have on board video?

When I recently discovered that I had no video output on my PC, here are the
steps I took that still doesn't work for me.

The motherboard that I have is a Socket A 462 with onboard video.

I went out purchased an ATI graphics card thinking that would fix the
problem since the onboard video wasn't working, still not working.

Then I purchased a new Socket A 462 motherboard without the onboard video
and plugged in my graphics card, still nothing.

Then I took out the graphics card, put a old video card in and it was
working. The screen said it was detecting the floppy drive. It sat there
for about 20 mins and still nothing so then I reset the power to it, then
nothing came up.

Then I reset the CMOS and still nothing appeared.

At this point, I am not sure what else I should do. Please help your tech
expert will be greatly appreciated.
