I downloaded an update and now I am wondering if .Net Framework is of any
use to a simple soul like me. Also what is Silverlite?

Do you need it?
I have no idea - only you know - because only you know what is installed on
your computer and then - if any of that requires any of the various .NET
Framework versions (1.1, 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5...)

As for SilverLight...
A Google for "what is Microsoft Silverlight"...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=what+is+Microsoft+Silverlight

Should lead you to:

Or better yet:

The .net framework is a set of run time files used by any program
written with .net. If you run programs written with .net you need this
file (actually several different versions of the.net framework; one
version doesn't always substitute for an earlier one).

I don't know whether you run any such programs, but if you do, and you
remove the needed .net framework file, the programs will fail to work.
And if you don't run any such programs, you probably will soon; they
are becoming more and more common.

Which doesn't exactly answer the question. Smile

Which does.

You would know if you did, because of .net dependent programs that wouldn't
run. The same is true for Java. There are in any case several releases of the
..net runtime, and it's often necessary to have the right one for the program,
so really no point in installing until there's a need for it.

I'm unaware of any problems caused by installing .net (other than the
obvious one of taking-up disk space) but Java has had a long history of
security issues, therefore I only install Java when needed. Which isn't very
often.

.net framework - Sorry about this dumb question, but I am having problems with a program that uses .net framework. I saw on another forum where someone did a "repair" install of .net framework. The question is how is this done or is it just a matter of reins...

.NET Framework 1.1 - I downloaded 2.0 so I could run an application, then after finding I didn't like the app, I uninstalled 2.0. Could this cause problems with XP or 1.1. If so, how do I get back to a pure 1.1? Thanks in advance.
