How do I fix this problem? Somehow my MS Office Excel program has become
uninstalled. I cannot open any existing Excel files or create new ones. I
get the following message:

Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can
occur if you are running Windows in safe mode (which I am not) or if the
Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel
for assistance.

All my other office programs (word, etc.) seem to be running fine.

Can anyone out there tell me what I can do to fix this without having to pay
Microsoft $60 bucks to get the problem fixed?

Thanks!

Your first try will be the office Repair option in Control Panel, Add/Remove
Programs.
