I'm sure I was able to type a message to an offline contact and it gave an
option that the message would be sent when the person signed in. Cannot now
find how to do this.

Greetings Bernard,

Yep that option is still there. Just open up the contact list, double-click an offline
contact and you'll be able to do it.

The only exception to this is if they've set themselves up on MSN Mobile, in which case
they're a mobile contact and you'll need to right-click them on the contact list, choose Send
other and then Send an Offline instant message.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'm using an older version of Messenger but when
I double-click on offline contact, it just launches Outlook. I'm on version
4.7, could that be the problem?

Help very much appreciated

Hi,

Yes that's the problem. You need at least MSN Messenger 7 to receive offline messages and
Windows Live Messenger 8.x to send them. Windows Messenger 4.x is actually nearly 7 years
old and doesn't have this feature I'm afraid.

Windows Live Messenger can be obtained from here:
