Loading Up?

I have a Compaq 3500 AMD Athlon. 1.0GB Memory. 200 GB HD. I have double
monitors and normally have 8 windows open, some of them minimized. If I am
away from the computer for an extended time, say thirty minutes on, when I
get back nothing is working. I cannot close any windows. I cannot bring up
the task manager and if it does appear, I cannot get it to end any of the
programs. Today I was able to open it and the CPU usage was 99%. What is
happening and how can it be fixed.

Do you have any Anti-virus or spyware scans, and if so, what are they
called?

It could just be a virus or some spyware clogging up your machine when it is
idle.
