How would one go about having the speakers on to listen to music while, at

I'm going to guess that "having the screen down" means not using your

There are laptops that allow you to listen to a CD without even booting it. Wink

In the properties of the Power Options tool in Control Panel, the When I
close the lid of my portable computer setting is set to Do nothing.

Start | Run | Type: powercfg.cpl | Click OK |
