Whenever I bring up the Java Control panel -- either from IE or from the
Control Panel itself, all I get is a blank window. What could be wrong with
the system/installation?
TIA
Norm

I tried. But before it would install that it insisted on installing an
Active-X update and that failed because it couldn't "download" one of the
required files. Multiple retries were useless.

Any other suggestions?

Did you try getting the offline installer?

Download the latest version's offline installer:
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Specifically:
http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=10778

THANKS! THAT WORKS. (I'm shouting for joy.)

Hmm ... I wonder what could be wrong with my system ... I'm sure that
not everybody's attempt to do the automatic thing fails so why would my
system be unable to download a single, specific file?
