It sounds as if your computer is running XP Professional and your husband was
using the built-in Administrator account as his regular account. If that were
the case, creating another account that is a member of the administrators group
will result in the Administrator account being hidden.
To access the built-in Administrator account do the following.
Log on with your new account.
Click on the Start button and select Log off from the menu.
That should bring up the Welcome Screen.
Next, hit the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys at the same time twice.
This should bring up the Logon to Windows dialog.
Enter Administrator in the User Name box along with the appropriate password.
Once logged on with this account see if he now has access to his files.
If your husband was using the Administrator account he should create a new user
account for himself and copy his old profile into the new account.
