Post subject: No INDEX List in "Help and Support" in XP Pro
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>perform_maintain (more info?)

Just upgraded to XP Pro from WIN 2K Pro and am having a few problems
with the XP Pro "Help and Support".

First, while H&S was inititally in the XP format, it seemed to be the
data from W2K since the Relevant Knowledge Base under Options did list
WIN 2K, but not XP. I reinstalled the H&S, and now XP shows up in the
Relevant Knowledge Base list. Except for the second issue described
below, H&S seems to be working as it should now.

Second issue is that when I click on INDEX nothing appears in the box
that should contain the list; nothing except the little red x in a
small red box. When I examine the properties of this graphic it shows
the link to be " hcp://system/panels/subpanels/Index.htm " which is a
mighty strange looking link.

What can I do to fix this problem? I can probably live without the
Index Option, but that is the way I normally try to track down answers
to questions.

Whether or not it is relevant, I note that nearly all the files in my
Windows\Inf directory are dated 1999, presumably from prior versions
of Windows from which I upgraded. While I recognize that a clean
install might get rid of some issues, I have probably 150 applications
installed on my system, which would horrendous to reinstall even
assuming I could find all the disks or DL files from which they were
installed; and all the setup customizing that was done subsequent to
their original installs.
