Go to the ATI web site and download and install the latest drivers first.

Unfortunately, the only way to see if your card has been damaged is to
look at it. Even then, unless it's got a huge gash you probably wouldn't
see the damage, anyway.

You haven't provided a whole lot of detail. What exactly do you mean by
your "desktop resolution"? What kind of artifacts are you seeing? What
kind of monitor do you have (LCD or CRT)? What kind of video connection
do you have (e.g., analog or digital)? What is your version of Windows
(with service pack)?

Video problems have many sources, but it's a simple thing to narrow down
the cause, given sufficient information.

Some things to check right now:

*If you have an LCD monitor, are you running it at its native resolution?
*Are you using the most recent driver available from the card
manufacturer's website?
*(If you have access to another monitor:) Do you have the same problem
with a different monitor?
*Shut down and power off your computer and monitor. Disconnect and
reconnect the video cable. Problem solved?
