Thank you so much for your help. The only question that comes to mind is how the !@!#$!# it happened as I did not do it myself. It just appeared that way one day.

What have I done? Suddenly all the file and directory names both in the
Desktop beneath the icons and in Windows Explorer all have their names
underlined. It all works OK but just looks wrong. There is no change in the
colouring of the names.
