Post subject: FIXED? Help and Support Center Searches have 0 Knowledge Base results
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I needed to post my experience with this problem, and record all the
steps that I can remember that might have resulted in fixing it.

1. I opened Help and Support Center from the start menu.

2. I clicked on "Set search options"

It was then that I noticed that my options were set as follows:
- Return up to 25 results per provider.
X Turn on search highlight. (checked)
X Suggested Topics (checked)
X Full-text Search Matches (checked)
[ ] Search in title only (unchecked)
[ ] Match similar words (unchecked)
X Microsoft Knowledge Base (checked)
"Office"
"All of the words"
[ ] Search in Title only (unchecked)

I do remember making those changes in the past, so those settings were
not surprising.

3. I changed the setting to "Return up to 15 results per provider."

4. I changed the product to be searched to "- All Microsoft Products
-" (the topmost choice)

5. I tried a search for "Windows Help" (no quotes) and 15 Knowledge
Base results were returned

6. I returned to "Set search options" and I changed the setting back
to "Return up to 25 results per provider." I retested with another
search and searches continued to work, now returning 25 answers from
the Knowledge Base.

7. I returned to "Set search options" and I changed the product to be
searched to "Windows XP" and then retested. I'm sorry, but I honestly
cannot remember whether this test was successful. At this point, I
was trying to find the key element that made things pass or fail.

8. I returned to "Set search options" and I noticed something
peculiar -- my product selector now read "Windows Update" instead of
"Windows XP." I am certain that I set it to "Windows XP" in the
previous step. I restored it to "Windows XP" and it is working
correctly and no longer reverting.

I cannot reproduce this, as whatever happened has happened and I
cannot revert to the previous state. But if these steps help you --
or if they do not -- please reply with your observations/
clarifications.

Thanks
