I am trying to use the Cisco VPN client 5.0 with XP SP2 and have users dial
into our VPN before the Windows logon, so they may connect and then log into
the network and run their login scripts. I have setup a dial-up connection
and configured the Cisco VPN client to use that connection, and can login
successfully with the VPN and then the Windows network login.
However, I have also used Connection Manager to create a connection that
includes a large phone book of dial-in numbers to be selected. If I
configure the VPN client to use it instead of the dial-up connection, the
Connection Manager entry does not work if used before logon and I receive
error 691. If I log into Windows either with a local account or cached
domain account and then start the Cisco client, the same Connection Manager
entry will work to dial into the network so the VPN client can connect.
The problem appears to be with Connection Manager entries when used with the
Cisco client, and only before logon. Has anyone experienced this problem?
The Cisco client is configured to start before logon and to allow launching
of third-party applications before logon.
