Post subject: Classic search great but can we have it not go through explorer / default folder to search. Get Alert
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

Getting the classic search back has been great; thanks for the help in
another thread re this. One of the big steps backward for me from Win2K
onwards is how the search function has to go through Explorer. I really
need to get the search to come up as a secondary function yet taking the
folder that we start the search from just like in Win98SE. Can this be done
in XP?

Also, a new thing is happening in searches - the default folder the search
starts on is not the C drive but on all folders. Can this be changed? I
search the C drive and subfolders more than anything else so it's much
better to have the usual C drive being the default for me.

Again, I've searched all over for these answers and haven't found anything
pertinent to either so hopefully someone here knows.

Click Start, Search to access the search function.

See if you like this workaround:

How to launch Search Companion with the "Look in" option pointing to a
specific folder or drive?:

in explorer.

This should be possible by customizing the values at:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f0-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

Try the tool here: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/99/1/

Command-line - Examples:

wscript.exe c:\utils\mysrch.vbs
wscript.exe "c:\my folder\mysrch.vbs"

After executing the file, i was able to add context menu items to the Search
button (Search C:, D:, E etc. in key
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\MySearch\MyHandler\shell]. I want to do the same thing
with "Run" button (for quick execution of shortcuts)... Can you tell me how ?

Should be possible in the similar way, but manually.

Where did the existing Run option go? Did you customize it earlier?

If I understand correctly, you're wanting to add additional static context menus to the Run command? If so, which command do you want to add?
