Post subject: Change guide settings without a TV tuner
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>mediacenter (more info?)

I just moved, and I have yet to find the box where I put my TV tuner. I'd
like to be able to use the guide function since right now I have only basic
cable...but I can't change the settings for the Guide zip code because the
program won't let me get to the TV settings without a TV tuner installed.

Is there any way to change the Guide zip code settings without installing
the TV tuner (it could be a week before I find it)?

Thanks.

Never done the following registry tweaks, but you may give a try:-

Thanks Sangupta. Although they didn't quite answer my question, those were
both good links which led me to (possibly) figure it out.

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media
Center\Settings\ProgramGuide there are two values for ZIP code and provider
ID. I believe if I change both of those to correct values then I've got the
guide updated to my new region. So...

Does anyone with a tuner want to do me a huge favor and tell me the cable
provider ID for 45069? I'd give you more 'was this helpful' yes votes than
you could ever imagine.

Thanks.

The Zip code & cable provider are irrelevant. What is important is the headend
ID which is looked up by Media Center on the basis of your zip code.
